🏘️ Town 🗼 Landmark 🐾 Wildlife 🏰 Temple 🏰 Place of worship 🌆 SkylineReal Cradle of the Aztec civilization, Mexico City is a colourful and multifaceted city.
A trendy city where Mexican traditions are honoured, Mexico City is the opportunity to see with your own eyes Teotihuacán, a mysterious city built during the pre-Columbian era.
The site has a museum before you enter the city, small but it prepares you well for the visit. A very impressive 4km path leads you to the pyramids: the pyramid of the sun and the pyramid of the moon.
The legend says that it is in this place that one becomes a god... Still today Mexicans present their children to the sun for their "awakening".
On the other side, besides the numerous shops, cafés and restaurants, the historical centre has some very beautiful and imposing pieces of architecture.
Go to the Plaza Constitucion or Zocalo, where you will find a lot of people, for the cathedral or the street markets.
The tour continues with Bellas Artes. Half museum, half theatre, it is a large and beautiful building. You can visit it for its temporary exhibitions, its permanent exhibition, but also for an evening of entertainment where several times a week the classics of Mexican ballet or opera are performed.
Looking for fresh air and a meal on the go? This is the perfect place to recharge your batteries. Inside the park, where you can take a beautiful walk, is a castle from the colonial empire, el Castillo de Chapultepec. It is a castle full of history.
After the visit, allow yourself a boat ride on the park's small pond.
Back to the Zocalo and back to the origins of the city. To the right of the cathedral is the Templo Mayor, the ruins and foundations of the largest Aztec empire, Tenochtitlan.
Mostly destroyed by the Spanish conquistadors to build Mexico City, Tenochtitlan had the particularity of being built on a lake that has now dried up. The site consists of ruins and a relatively small museum.
Throughout the tour, the archaeological research that was carried out and that led to the discovery of the ruins not so long ago is described.
Finally, the floating garden of Xochimilco has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lake on which Tenochtitlan rested did not dry up completely, which gives us a network of canals, where "the flowers are born". Let yourself be guided by a guide, who will give you the opportunity to take a boat ride.
Mexico City is full of other things to discover, so don't hesitate!
If you want to visit as much as possible without tiring yourself out and therefore spreading your visits a bit thin, the best thing to do is to spend 5 to 7 days in Mexico City.
The currency used in Mexico City (and in Mexico in general) is the Mexican peso.
